The General Educational Development (GED) tests are a group of four academic subject tests in the United States and Canada certifying academic knowledge equivalent for a high school diploma. This certification is an alternative to the U.S. high school diploma, as is HiSET. Passing the GED test gives those who do not complete high school, or who do not meet requirements for high school diploma, the opportunity to earn a Certificate of High School Equivalency or similarly titled credential. GED Testing Service is a joint venture of the American Council on Education, which started the GED program in 1942.

For those that meet the qualification, they can register through Pearson Vue or register an account with ged.com. People who live outside the United States, Canada, or U.S. territories may be eligible to take the GED tests through Pearson VUE testing centre.

According to GED Testing Service policy, students at least 16 years old and not enrolled in high school are eligible for the program. However, many States in the US require the candidate to be 17 years old and a resident of that State. Some States in the US that allow students under 17 years of age to take the test require a letter of parental consent and a letter of consent from the student’s school district. In South Africa and Namibia, students who are at least 17 years old are eligible for this exam.

The GED exam measure proficiency in science, mathematics, social studies, reading, and writing. There are four exams, you can take them in any order; namely, Reasoning through Language Art (RLA) otherwise called English & writing, science, social studies and mathematics.

This is the elephant in the room. Student circumstances vary, a number of the candidates are working full- and part-time jobs and attending a class might be difficult, as a result of these life challenges, it might take longer to prepare for this exam. But at GED Bootcamps, depending on our students’ circumstances, we often recommend four or eight weeks. During these periods, you can complete your study, preparation and pass all the four exams, using our tailored schedule.

The cost of the exam varies depending on your location. There are a few States within the US that allow candidates to take the exam without any fee.
